Mungo Schmidt
Mungo Schmidt and Andres Mijares.
Mungo started at Luxury Partners advising some of the most renowned luxury hospitality brands in the world, and does the brand, the strategy and the commercial side. Andres cooked at Cavita for three years, from kitchen porter to running the raw bar, in what Time Out rated the best Mexican restaurant in London. He DJs, programmes the music, and clubs pay him to tell them who to book. Mungo is South African, Andres is Mexican, both in London.
Neither of us came to this from the outside. Mungo trained as a bartender and worked the floor at a luxury resort in Mauritius, Andres spent three years in the Cavita kitchen. We’ve both worked the shifts we’re now designing, so we know which ideas survive a full room and which ones fall apart on the night.
Most rooms quietly losing energy are losing it because they were built for the people already in them. That audience gets older and busier and comes in less, and nothing new arrives at the top to replace it. The trade doesn’t fall off a cliff, it just gets thinner every year until someone looks at a Tuesday and wonders what happened. We’re the customers those rooms aren’t reaching, and we know where our friends are going this year and what they’ll be tired of by next.
